"brendan donley" "the assist" "big inning"

#101 // Azpilicueta → Higuaín Chelsea 2 – 1 Burnley

César Azpilicueta is not feeling the love from the Chelsea fans.

But he did have this.

On the day he made this pass, Irish step-dancing meets transcendent backheel assist-giving…

You check for the reaction.

And it’s like the long lost sequel to the Player Hater’s Ball:

Below, a sampler platter:

Minutes earlier, Chelsea behind 1-0, they’d tied things with perhaps an even better assist.

Hazard dancing around the end line, flirting with a cross until driving the ball on the ground to Kanté.

There was that, and then in the 14th minute the Higuaín goal. Chelsea with a 2-1 lead and a new hope for leaping back up into the Champions League spots.

Reason enough for the player hating, literal player hating, to be kept at bay.

But then, ten minutes later, Burnley tied it back up 2-2.

And by the end, the game finished in a draw.

With these two master assists to be forgotten, uncared for, into the dustbin of disgruntled Chelsea fan memory.

Azpilicueta and Hazard but grains of sand in a desert of angry men in blue shirts, chanting in increasingly loud roars:

“Hate! Hate! Hate! Hate! Hate!”
